Hillsdale College is a co-educational, liberal arts college in Hillsdale, which is the county seat of Hillsdale County, situated in the US state of Michigan, with a population estimated at a number of more than 8000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. Hillsdale College was established in December, 1844, as Michigan Central College, being originally located in Spring Arbor, MI. The college was moved to its present location in 1853, when it also adopted its current name.
Currently, Hillsdale College has an enrollment of more than 1300 students, being ranked 89th in the 2010 U.S. News & World Report listing of best American Liberal Arts colleges, and 76th among Forbes 2009 America's Best Colleges, being also ranked 2nd, by the Princeton Review, among The Best 371 Colleges (2009), for the quality education offered.
Hillsdale's athletic teams are known as the Chargers, who compete in NCAA Division II, in various sports, for both men and women, including in football, basketball, baseball, cross country and volleyball. The Chargers have experienced notable achievements in many of the sports in which they compete, over the years, including in football, in which they won the 1985 NAIA Championship, as well as in football, in which they were runner-ups in 1957, and men's cross country, in which they were runner-ups 2 times, in '92 and '94.
